If you are learning Korean, you definitely need to learn the numbers. Numbers are used often in daily conversations like when you are talking about age, phone numbers, time, ordering something in cafes (quantity), etc.

There are two types of Korean number system, yes you read it right. One is Sino- Korean numbers and the other is Native Korean numbers. In this blog I will cover Sino-Korean numbers and Native Korean Numbers I have already uploaded the blog do check it out.

Sino-Korean numbers are used to express height, prices, telephone numbers, years, months, minutes, seconds, numbers in an address, weight, bus route numbers, room numbers, floor numbers, building numbers, temperature, school grade, percentage, and all numbers higher than 99.

Let’s start with the basics, Sino- Korean numbers from 1 to 10:

·     1: (il)

·     2: (i)

·     3: (sam)

·     4: (sa)

·     5: (o)

·     6: (yuk)

·     7: (chil)

·     8: (pal)

·     9: (gu)

·     10: (sip)

Now, if you want to write or say number 12 in Korean just do this:

12 = 10 + 2 =

Likewise,

54 = 5 + 10 + 4 =

65 = 6 + 10 + 5 =

76 = 7 + 10 + 6 =

99 = 9 + 10 + 9 = 십구

For 100, 1000 and 10,000:

100

  (baek)

1,000

  (cheon)

10,000

  (man)

Example :

312 = 3 + 100 + 10 + 2 =
564 = 5 + 100 + 6 + 10 + 4 =
1,234 = 1,000 + 2 + 100 + 3 + 10 + 4 =
50,000 = 5 + 10,000 =

Just remember 1 – 10, 100, 1000, and 10000, you will be able to create all combinations of  Sino-Korean numbers.
